Writing

Like so many journalism careers, mine budded from a passion for writing. I’ve always found ease in writing what I think as opposed to saying it, as the page seemingly offers such a larger canvas to paint a story than any other medium. Humans have largely talked about the same things since the first words were ever spoken, placing a premium on life, love and happiness. Throughout the course of our history, however, writers have somehow always managed to arrange words to unveil newer, deeper understandings of our most basic principles.

I’ve had the benefit of writing for a number of different publications, covering countless topics and interviewing more people than I can remember. For the The Daily Athenaeum, I wrote columns, features and covered local news. My beats varied greatly, as I covered both university and city politics, law enforcement, education, business and entertainment. Once I moved into the sports editor role, I essentially committed to covering college sports, which continued as I moved up into the managing editor role.

Since I started with Wide Open Spaces in 2017, I’ve written about anything and everything attached to the outdoors, including legislation, conservation, wildlife biology and outdoor retail. I’ve produced features highlighting up-and-coming businesses and individuals across the industry, first-person adventure experiences, product launches and strategies for hunting, fishing and camping enthusiasts in various formats. And, I’ve developed relationships with some of the most prominent brands and influencers in the outdoor space to create the best published product, all while coaching fellow writers to a level where they can do the same.
